National Reserve
The National Reserves are well-protected areas whose main objective
is to maintain the diversity of life forms, and the constant use
of aquatics or land flora and fauna resources. A good commercial
use of the natural resources is permited under evaluated and supervised
plans which are controlled by the appropriate national authority.
Nowadays there are four national reserves which lie an area of 3221
376 (hectareas) equivalent to 2.51% of the National territory.
Existen actualmente 4 reservas nacionales que ocupan un área de 3 221 376 hectáreas, equivalentes al 2.51% del territorio nacional.

An area generally wide, where exists a great variety of unique
or representative environments of the natural diversity of life
forms in the country. It is not significantly alterated by the human
action, and permits the autoperpetuation of the species; and where
the flora and fauna, or geological formations are of educational,
scientific or entertaining interest.
Its goals are the preservation of samples of natural environments
with cultural and scenic characteristics associated with them; the
continuity of evolutive processes; and if possible compatible with
the development of educational, reserchable and entertaining activities.
